It is with great sadness that I write this to you. There have been conspiracy theories throughout my life, from both the right and the left. I've never been big on them, nor paid them a great deal of attention. But with the rise of trumpism and the experience of both his first term and his activities throughout biden's term and his election campaign, and them, conclusively, throughout his first 100 days in his second term, I have come to the sad and fearful conclusion that President Trump and his party are fully intending to execute a coup on the US government. Timothy Snyder, Ruth Ben Ghiat and others have documented clearly the path that this administration is following towards autocracy in ways that parallel other autocratic takeovers and the fall of democracy in other countries. My strong admonition to you, and I no longer believe that this is hysterical or over reactive or reactionary, is that you need to have conversations with national guard commanders that are currently under your control and authority to find out whether or not they will stand with you and the Constitution to oppose Federal forces, be they national guard or US military, in their very possible, perhaps even likely attempt to subdue any resistance to an autocratic government. Government. We all know that posse comitatus forbids the US military take military action against US citizens. It now appears that President Trump has removed many senior commanders that would still hold allegiance to the Constitution and the rule of law in favor of loyalists who stand with Trump over law and the Constitution. You need to know where your resources lie and how dependable they are to defend Colorado and its citizens against a totalitarian government. I actually find it hard to believe that I have written what I have above and that I am taking this seriously enough to send it to you. But we are in unprecedented times, unlike anything that we have experienced before, even the first term of Donald Trump. I think we had preludes and forecasts of these events but now we are coming down to it. Because we all want to believe that our government, our way of life, while obviously prone to swings from one direction to the other is safe and secure. That is no longer the case. Please make sure that you are preparing for a worst case scenario. Thank you.
