I am writing to urge you to stand against the proposed federal budget plan that includes cuts to Medicaid and other critical safety net programs. The proposed reduction in Medicaid will impact the health, dignity, and lives of millions of Americans, including low income families, children, older adults, and people with disabilities. These are our neighbors, parents, veterans.
Cutting Medicaid is a blow to our nation’s most vulnerable. It will force people to choose between medical care and basic needs like housing and food. It will leave people sicker, drive up costs, and widen the already deep gap in health equity.
In addition I’m deeply troubled by other parts of the budget proposal that further harm middle and working class Americans:
* Threats to Social Security and Medicare through “reform” language that disguises potential benefit cuts.
* Tax breaks for the wealthy and large corporations that are paid for by reducing programs that benefit the majority of Americans.
* Reducing funding for education, public health, and infrastructure, all of which are critical investments in a thriving, sustainable future. This budget does not reflect the values of fairness, compassion, and, and opportunity. It prioritizes the wealthy over working families, and corporations over communities.
I urge you to reject the proposed budget and instead advocate for one that strengthens Medicaid, protects social security and Medicare, and invests in the people who keep this country running.
