The SAVE Act is an unnecessary and discriminatory measure that threatens to undermine voting rights for millions of eligible Americans, especially women who have changed their surname. It would force voters to repeatedly submit documentary proof of citizenship, make online voter registration impossible, and penalize election officials for minor errors. This creates unreasonable barriers to the franchise, disproportionately impacting 69 million potentially eligible women voters, as well as trans voters, young voters without passports, newly naturalized citizens, veterans, and rural communities. There is no evidence of widespread non-citizen voting that would justify such draconian restrictions. The SAVE Act is a thinly veiled attack on democracy itself under the guise of electoral integrity. I urge you to stand against this legislation and protect the fundamental right to vote for all Americans.
