Oppose H.R. 1897

To: Sen. Van Hollen, Rep. McClain Delaney, Sen. Alsobrooks

From: A constituent in Germantown, MD

April 14

I am writing as a constituent from ZIP code 20872 to urge you to support restoring gray wolves to full protection under the federal Endangered Species Act and to reject H.R. 1897, the ESA Amendments Act. I also ask you to publicly denounce this bill. What concerns me most is that H.R. 1897 undermines science-based wildlife management, invites political interference in decisions that should be made by experts, and harms rural economies that benefit from healthy ecosystems and wildlife tourism. The ESA was built to rely on science, and that principle should not be weakened for short-term politics. Gray wolves are essential to ecosystem health. They help maintain balance in the food chain, which supports plant growth, biodiversity, and healthier landscapes. They are also an important part of the outdoor experience for people like me who value time spent hiking and enjoying wild places. Wolves are part of our national heritage, and with only about 6,000 left in the lower 48 states, federal protections remain necessary for their long-term survival. This issue also has real economic consequences. Wildlife tourism and outdoor recreation depend on thriving natural systems, and wolves are part of what draws people to our public lands and rural communities. Undermining their protection puts both ecological and local economic health at risk. Please stand firmly for science, responsible stewardship, and strong federal protections for gray wolves ajd other wildlife by opposing H.R. 1897 and speaking out against it.
