Urge humane immigration enforcement focusing on public safety threats
To: Rep. Mast, Sen. Moody, Sen. Scott

The video footage capturing the arrest of a mother by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents in Worcester, Massachusetts is deeply troubling. The scenes of a crowd attempting to prevent the detention, forming a "human ring" around the family, illustrate the growing outrage over ICE's aggressive tactics that are tearing families apart. Forcibly separating a mother from her children, including a newborn infant, on the eve of Mother's Day is an unconscionable act that goes against basic human decency. While maintaining law and order is important, ICE's hardline approach needlessly traumatizes communities and breeds mistrust in law enforcement. The arrest and physical restraint of the teenage daughter, whose face was reportedly "slammed into the ground" by police, is particularly concerning given she was simply trying to prevent her family from being torn apart. No child should have to endure such a horrific experience. I urge you to condemn these draconian immigration enforcement actions and call for ICE to exercise more judicious discretion, focusing on legitimate threats rather than indiscriminately targeting undocumented immigrants who pose no danger to public safety. Reasonable minds can debate immigration policy, but forcibly separating families should be universally opposed on moral grounds. ICE's callous disregard for human dignity demands a course correction.
