An Open Letter

Arizona SB1166 represents a concerning threat to the rights and well-being of transgender students in our state. The bill mandates parental notification whenever school employees use names and pronouns that affirm a student's gender identity. This undermines transgender students' ability to have their identities respected and creates an environment where they may feel unsafe or unsupported. Furthermore, the religious exemption clause enables discrimination by allowing school staff to refuse to use affirming names and pronouns based on their personal beliefs. No student should face marginalization or denial of their identity, especially in an educational setting meant to foster growth and acceptance. Protecting the rights and dignity of transgender youth must be a priority. I urge you to oppose SB1166 and uphold an inclusive school environment for all students.
