I am writing to urge you to oppose the SAVE America Act. President Trump announced on Sunday that he will not sign any bills until this legislation passes, holding the entire legislative process hostage to advance this harmful proposal.
The SAVE America Act threatens fundamental aspects of our democracy and would have devastating consequences for constituents across your district. This legislation represents an overreach that would undermine the rights and protections that Americans depend on. When one person can halt all legislative business until their preferred bill passes, regardless of its merit or impact on communities, we have abandoned the deliberative process that makes our system work.
The President's insistence on an uncompromised version, rejecting any modifications that might address legitimate concerns, demonstrates the inflexibility driving this effort. Good legislation requires debate, amendment, and consideration of diverse perspectives. The demand for passage without meaningful review or revision should concern anyone who values representative government.
Your constituents need you to continue the work of governing, not to participate in legislative standstills that prevent progress on critical issues. Families in our community face real challenges that require congressional action, from healthcare costs to infrastructure needs to economic security. Holding these priorities hostage to force through controversial legislation serves no one's interests.
I ask you to publicly oppose the SAVE America Act and to work with your colleagues to ensure that the legislative process continues to function for the benefit of all Americans. Our democracy depends on representatives who will stand up against efforts to circumvent normal procedures and force through legislation without proper scrutiny.
Please vote no on the SAVE America Act and communicate your opposition clearly to leadership and constituents.
