Urgent Request for Public Support of Trans Healthcare in Arizona
To: Gov. Hobbs
From: A verified voter in Tucson, AZ
May 3
I’m writing as a resident of Arizona who is alarmed by the recent 409-page report released by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services titled “Treatment for Pediatric Gender Dysphoria: Review of Evidence and Best Practices.” While framed as a scientific review, the document is deeply biased, promotes discredited pseudoscience, and appears designed to undermine access to gender-affirming care for transgender youth and adults.
This report does not reflect the medical consensus or ethical standards upheld by major professional organizations, including the American Academy of Pediatrics, the American Medical Association, and the World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH). It ignores best practices and omits credible evidence in favor of politically motivated narratives that endanger lives.
In the face of escalating national attacks on trans people, I urge you to:
Issue a public statement affirming your support for transgender Arizonans and condemning this dangerous HHS report
Reaffirm Arizona’s commitment to evidence-based, medically necessary gender-affirming care for all who need it
Support protections that prevent the use of this report to justify restrictions on healthcare, education, or civil rights in our state
Arizona’s trans residents, including youth and their families, need to know their leaders will stand with them. Your leadership matters now more than ever.
Thank you for your time, and for your continued commitment to equity and human dignity in Arizona.
