An Open Letter
To: Sen. Warner
From: A constituent in Forest, VA
March 27
I'm writing to urge you to support Senator Bernie Sanders's Joint Resolutions of Disapproval, aimed at blocking the Trump administration's proposed arms sales to Israel. These resolutions are a crucial step towards upholding human rights and promoting a peaceful resolution to the conflict in Gaza.
The proposed arms sales, totaling over $20 billion, include offensive weapons such as Joint Direct Attack Munitions and 120mm artillery shells, which have been used in strikes that have killed thousands of civilians, including aid workers and journalists, in Gaza. These weapons have been linked to gross human rights violations, and their transfer would only exacerbate the humanitarian crisis in the region.
Other key concerns include:
• Humanitarian Crisis: The conflict in Gaza has led to a catastrophic humanitarian situation, with hundreds of thousands of people on the brink of starvation and suffering from the spread of deadly diseases.
• Human Rights Violations: The Israeli military's use of these weapons has been documented by human rights organizations and the United Nations, highlighting a pattern of unlawful attacks and gross human rights violations.
• U.S. Law and Policy: The transfer of these weapons would be in contravention of U.S. law and policy, which prohibits arms transfers to countries that engage in gross human rights violations.
By supporting Senator Sanders's Joint Resolutions of Disapproval, we can take a stand against human rights abuses and promote a more just and peaceful future for all. I urge you to join me in advocating for these resolutions and upholding our nation's values of compassion, justice, and human rights. Thank you for your attention to this critical matter.
