I am writing to express my profound concern regarding President Donald Trump’s recent national address on "Election Integrity" and the looming threat of unconstitutional federal overreach. During his speech, the President claimed that foreign actors, specifically China, compromised 220 million U.S. voter files, using this and unsubstantiated allegations of rampant fraud to demand the immediate passage of the "Save America Act". However, compelling analysis of these actions indicates a far more dangerous objective: the manufacturing of a pretext to declare a national emergency and seize extraordinary executive authority over our elections. Reports revealing that the administration’s allies have drafted a 17-page executive order to unlock vast presidential powers over voting reinforce this conclusion. This strategy represents a direct, unprecedented assault on the principles of federalism. By attempting to nationalize election administration, gut oversight bodies, and potentially deploy federal agencies to polling places, the executive branch is seeking to strip states of their constitutional sovereignty. When the explicitly stated goal of these maneuvers is to ensure a single party "stops losing for a century," it becomes undeniable that the true objective is entrenched power, not election security. As a citizen of Utah, I am incredibly proud of our state’s secure, efficient, and robustly managed election system. For years, Utah has served as a national model for secure mail-in voting and administrative integrity, managed entirely at the state and local levels. A federal executive takeover, executed under the guise of a manufactured emergency, would directly violate the Tenth Amendment and undermine the trust Utahns place in our democratic institutions. Therefore, I urgently request that the Governor’s office and our state representatives prepare a decisive, proactive response to resist any such unconstitutional overreach. Utah must stand firm against federal coercion, refuse to surrender our voter rolls to weaponized federal oversight, and be ready to legally and administratively challenge any executive orders that seek to subvert state-run elections. We look to our state leadership to defend Utah's sovereignty, protect our secure voting infrastructure, and ensure that the federal executive branch is stopped from throwing our upcoming elections into chaos.
