Reject HR 22 which allows more voter suppression

To: Sen. Moody, Rep. Castor, Sen. Scott

From: A constituent in Saint Petersburg, FL

April 18

Upholding the fundamental right to vote is critical for a functioning democracy. HR 22, deceptively labeled the "Silencing Americans Act," would create unnecessary barriers and disproportionately disenfranchise marginalized communities by mandating burdensome documentary proof of citizenship requirements to register for federal elections. This legislation perpetuates the insidious myth of widespread voter fraud and enables voter suppression tactics that undermine our democratic process. Existing safeguards are more than sufficient to ensure election integrity. We must reject HR 22 and any efforts that violate the constitutional principles of equal protection and freedom of voice by erecting undue obstacles to the ballot box. Protecting unfettered access to voting for all eligible citizens is essential to preserving the will of the people.
