I am writing to express my deep outrage over the actions taken this past week by President Donald Trump and the dangerous precedents they are setting for our democracy and the rule of law.
First, the arrest of a sitting senator—merely for asking critical questions and doing their duty—is not only alarming, it is authoritarian. This is not how a democratic republic is supposed to function. Elected officials should not be criminalized for oversight and inquiry, especially when acting in the public’s interest.
Second, Trump’s use of military force in a domestic context, seemingly to intimidate or suppress political opposition, is completely unacceptable and raises serious constitutional concerns. Our armed forces are not tools for personal vengeance or political theater. If this behavior goes unchecked, it puts all Americans at risk and undermines the integrity of our institutions.
Finally, I haven’t forgotten his continued push for the so-called “big beautiful bill,” which is nothing more than a trojan horse for deeply unpopular and harmful policies. Legislation should be crafted through transparent processes and bipartisan cooperation—not fear, chaos, or spectacle.
I urge you to speak out clearly and forcefully against these actions. We cannot normalize this behavior or allow accountability to slide yet again. I also expect you to do everything in your power to investigate, resist, and hold those responsible to account—because our democracy depends on it.
