An Open Letter

To: Sen. Alsobrooks, Rep. Hoyer, Sen. Van Hollen

From: A constituent in North Beach, MD

June 20, 2025

I’m writing to demand you vote NO on the Senate’s so-called “One Big, Beautiful Bill Act” (OBBBA)—a sweeping, dangerous piece of legislation that would gut climate protections, sell off our public lands, and fast-track polluters’ agendas. This bill is a nightmare for anyone who values clean air, water, and a livable planet. Here’s what’s at stake: • 2–3 million acres of public lands could be sold off, with over 250 million more acres exposed to future giveaways—stripping land from Indigenous communities, hunters, hikers, and future generations. • It slashes tax credits for solar, wind, energy efficiency, and EVs—cutting the legs out from under America’s clean energy future. • It restores Trump-era leasing policies and reduces royalty rates for oil, gas, and coal companies—lining corporate pockets while our planet burns. • It dismantles environmental and judicial oversight, giving corporations a green light to destroy ecosystems without public input or accountability. This bill is not a budget—it’s a corporate land grab and fossil fuel giveaway disguised as legislation. It’s reckless, cruel, and climate denial in action. We are running out of time—not just before the July 4th vote, but to stop the worst effects of the climate crisis. Do your job. Represent the people. Vote NO on OBBBA.
