State of Arizona: Defend the Constitution Now

To: Gov. Hobbs, Rep. Wilmeth, Sen. Bolick, Rep. Simacek

From: A verified voter in Phoenix, AZ

April 18

I am writing to you as a concerned citizen of Arizona, deeply troubled by the lack of urgent and meaningful action to address the ongoing constitutional violations and abuses of power by the Trump administration. This is not a partisan issue—it is a fundamental matter of upholding the rule of law and defending the Constitution that binds us as a nation. The reckless actions of this administration have consistently undermined the principles we hold dear, including its blatant disregard for Supreme Court rulings, misuse of executive privilege, and ongoing defiance of judicial authority. This behavior is an affront to our democracy and a direct challenge to the values we cherish here in Arizona and across the country. Yet Congress has failed to respond with the urgency and seriousness required. Presidential immunity, as currently interpreted, is based on precedents from previous administrations. However, the actions we are witnessing today are unprecedented and demand a redefinition of presidential immunity to ensure no individual—regardless of office—is above the law. For those who argue that this is a matter of budgetary constraints, I ask: how are we budgeting for these profoundly inhumane and unconstitutional acts? What is the financial cost to the taxpayers of Arizona and the ethical cost to our shared values? Resources that could be directed toward education, infrastructure, and addressing the needs of Arizonans are instead being spent defending indefensible actions. This is not only a betrayal of our values but an irresponsible use of taxpayer money. This should be a bipartisan fire drill. The Constitution is not optional—it is the foundation of our nation and the guiding principle of your service to the people of Arizona. Failing to act decisively in the face of these abuses is an embarrassment to America and a betrayal of the oath you took to protect and defend the Constitution. I demand immediate action and accountability. Investigate these claims thoroughly, hold those responsible to account, and restore the checks and balances that are essential to our democracy. If you are serious about your constitutional oath and your duty to represent the people of Arizona, the time to act is now. The people of Arizona are watching, and history will judge how you respond to this moment. I urge you to act with the courage and integrity that this crisis demands.
