No masked and unidentified law enforcement

To: Sen. Valdez, Rep. Farivar, Gov. Ferguson, Rep. Pollet

From: A constituent in Seattle, WA

June 20, 2025

It is deeply concerning that ICE and law enforcement officers in general are allowed to conceal their identities and evade accountability through the use of face coverings while on duty. This undermines public trust and runs counter to principles of transparency in a democratic society. The recent disturbing incidents of unidentified federal agents detaining protesters underscore the urgent need for legislation prohibiting this deceptive and unethical practice. Please be an active proponent of a "No Secret Police" law mirroring Senator Wiener's proposed bill in California. Washington State can safeguard civil liberties, protect the rights of peaceful assembly and free speech, and ensure law enforcement operates with proper oversight.   Failing to take decisive action risks further eroding faith in public institutions and enabling escalating abuses of power. I urge you to prioritize the introduction and passage of such legislation to uphold fundamental American values of openness and justice for all citizens.
