Stop corporate consolidation of media in the US. It threatens our Democracy.

I am writing to express my strong opposition to the DOJ's recent decision to officially clear the $110 billion merger between Paramount-Skydance and Warner Bros. Discovery. This approval represents a fundamental failure by regulators to protect the American public from dangerous corporate consolidation. The "Consumer Welfare Standard" being used by antitrust authorities is dangerously outdated. By focusing narrowly on short-term pricing, regulators are ignoring the systemic and irreversible harms this mega-merger will cause, including: - National Sovereignty & Media Trust: This deal leaves 38.5% of the combined company owned by foreign sovereign wealth funds (Saudi Arabia, the UAE, and Qatar). Allowing foreign governments a massive stake in an entity that controls primary American news infrastructure—including CBS News and CNN—jeopardizes independent journalism. - Labor Suppression & Job Loss: Historically, corporate consolidations of this scale result in immediate mass layoffs, reduced wages, and decreased bargaining power for creative and technical professionals. - Market Stranglehold: We are witnessing an era of massive corporate capture where a handful of powerful executives and billionaires control the information and entertainment landscape. True free enterprise requires robust competition, not a state-sanctioned monopoly. The American public is tired of watching our markets be systematically consolidated at the expense of our jobs, our culture, and our national security. As my representative, I urge you to: 1. Demand Accountability: Call for immediate Congressional hearings to force the Department of Justice to explain how greenlighting a media monopoly of this size serves the public interest. 2. Support Structural Reform: Publicly back legislation that shifts the burden of proof in major media mergers, requiring giant corporations to prove their consolidation actively benefits the public rather than simply proving it won't raise prices tomorrow. 3. Investigate Foreign Ownership: Demand strict scrutiny by the FCC regarding foreign government investment in American broadcast licenses and news media networks. I am looking for my elected officials to take a firm, bipartisan stand against this trend. What concrete steps is your office taking to challenge this merger, and how can I support your efforts?
