America will have no kings
To: Gov. Braun
From: A constituent in Bloomington, IN
February 4, 2025
The United States is facing an unprecedented crisis—not one of partisan politics, but of constitutional survival. An unelected private citizen, Elon Musk, has taken control of key government agencies, overriding laws, shutting down programs, and accessing sensitive financial and national security data. And he is doing so with the tacit approval of President Donald Trump, without congressional authorization, and in direct violation of the Constitution.
This is not a policy dispute. This is not normal governance. This is a coup.
Congress alone holds the power of the purse. Congress alone has the authority to create or dismantle federal agencies. Yet Musk’s so-called Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) has unilaterally begun shutting down government programs, interfering in federal financial transactions, and stripping away critical services—all without legal authority. If this is allowed to continue, it will set a dangerous precedent: that a billionaire with the President’s favor can sidestep the law, seize control, and remake the government in his own image.
Governor, your voice carries weight. You have the power to rally other governors, to apply pressure where it is needed most, and to demand that Congress act before it is too late. The steps are clear:
1. Call for an immediate halt to all actions taken by DOGE. Congress must pass emergency legislation removing Musk and his operatives from any position of federal authority.
2. Demand accountability. Congress must investigate how this unconstitutional seizure of power was allowed to happen.
3. Support impeachment proceedings. President Trump has facilitated and encouraged this illegal takeover. If Congress fails to act, the executive branch will only become more emboldened.
This is far bigger than any political party. This is about the survival of representative democracy. If Congress will not stand up for itself, the states must demand that it do so.
You swore an oath to uphold the Constitution. Now is the time to act on it.
