Pass the immigrant protection bills

Dear Governor Mikie Sherrill,
I am writing to respectfully urge you to support and sign the strongest possible versions of the two immigrant protection bills currently under consideration in the New Jersey Legislature.
New Jersey has long prided itself on being a state that values fairness, opportunity, and public safety. Strong immigrant protection laws are fully aligned with those values. When immigrant residents can report crimes, cooperate with local law enforcement, access healthcare, and send their children to school without fear of unjust detention or family separation, our entire state becomes safer and more stable.
Weakening these bills would leave vulnerable families exposed and undermine trust between communities and local institutions. Clear, robust safeguards that limit inappropriate collaboration with federal immigration enforcement, protect due process rights, and establish transparency and accountability are essential. Half-measures will not provide the certainty and security that families need.
Immigrants are deeply woven into the fabric of New Jersey. They are essential workers, small business owners, students, faith leaders, and neighbors who contribute significantly to our economy and civic life. Protecting their rights is not only a moral imperative—it is a practical investment in the health, safety, and prosperity of our communities.
At this pivotal moment, your leadership can ensure that New Jersey continues to set a strong example for the nation. I respectfully ask that you stand firmly behind the strongest versions of these bills and work to secure their passage and full implementation.
Thank you for your time and for your commitment to serving all residents of our state.
Sincerely,
