HB1834/SB5708 will lead to an increase in identity theft

To: Rep. Bergquist, Sen. Hasegawa, Rep. Hackney

From: A verified voter in Renton, WA

February 11

House bill 1834 and senate bill 5708 are a gross overreach of privacy in an era where cyber threats are more prevalent than ever. Requiring people to provide additional personal information to tech companies who are notorious for data breaches and poor security is going to lead to an epidemic of stolen identities and cyber crime. These bills should not be passed until sufficient protections are in place to ensure that bad actors will not gain access to our personal information.
