Data center regulations are needed now

To: Sen. Rosen, Rep. Lee, Sen. Cortez Masto

From: A constituent in Las Vegas, NV

January 27

Data center regulations are needed now! Data centers drive up electricity demand, and monopoly utility companies are known to pass along the cost to the consumers. NV Energy is gearing up to inflict a 'daily demand charge' starting in April, and it sure feels like these two topics may be related. Data centers pollute the nearby surroundings in multiple ways such as environmental and noise. Data centers require water resources which residents are consistently reminded are in critical supply. Yet, I recently read in the news that yet another huge data center has been permitted to build in North Las Vegas. I read in a news article that Switch acquired 176 acres in NLV near Gilcrease Orchard. Is Switch going to be allowed to tap into the underground artesian wells? Could their operation possibly pollute the artesian wells? I'm very concerned about how this will impact that immediate area. Allowing data centers in the city makes no sense to me. Please investigate! Thank you.
