Improve conditions in fl detention camp to prevent public health outbreak.
To: Rep. McGuire
From: A constituent in Charlottesville, VA
July 7, 2025
I’m writing to raise urgent concern about the detention site in Florida—what people are now calling Alligator Alcatraz.
Thousands of people are being held in canvas tents, in swamp heat, without plumbing, sanitation, or mosquito control.
That’s not just inhumane, it’s immoral. That’s a breeding ground for disease—mosquito-borne, bloodborne, and airborne.
Mosquitoes are already swarming that area. With no sanitary waste removal, no medical care for menstruating women, and no OB/GYN oversight, we’re on the edge of a serious public health disaster.
Malaria. Dengue. Zika. Chikungunya. These aren’t local issues—they’re national threats.
Mosquitoes don’t stay behind barbed wire. They bite one infected person inside the camp, fly out, and bite a construction worker. A truck driver. A tourist. A child. And now the infection has wings—crossing state lines, riding buses, trains, flights—anywhere infected blood can go.
One mosquito. One bite. One outbreak. That’s all it takes.
If Congress doesn’t act, we’re not just looking at potential lawsuits—we’re looking at a preventable epidemic.
This isn’t about party.
This is about protecting the health of the American people—including your own constituents.
I’m asking you to demand:
– Emergency mosquito control at that facility
– Medical sanitation for all detainees, including OB/GYN care
– Immediate inspection and disease mitigation
This has gone beyond politics.
It’s a biohazard waiting to happen.
And if Congress doesn’t intervene now?
The next outbreak might not start overseas.
It’ll start in Florida—and spread everywhere.
