An Open Letter

To: Sen. Kennedy, Rep. Letlow, Sen. Cassidy

From: A constituent in Denham Springs, LA

May 10

I am writing to urge you to oppose any legislation or legal effort that further restricts access to reproductive healthcare, including medication abortion and telehealth access to mifepristone. Right now, Americans are watching a dangerous escalation in government interference with private medical decisions. Families are being investigated, parents are being threatened, and healthcare providers are being targeted — all while patients are left in fear and confusion. The temporary Supreme Court stay protecting access to mifepristone through telehealth and mail delivery is set to expire on May 11 while the Court considers the case further. This medication has been FDA-approved for decades and is used not only for abortion care, but also for miscarriage management and other essential reproductive healthcare needs. (Reuters) Restricting access will disproportionately harm low-income families, rural communities, victims of abuse, and minors already facing impossible circumstances. It will force patients to travel farther, delay medical care, and increase medical risk — despite overwhelming scientific evidence supporting the medication’s safety. I am especially alarmed by reports of Child Protective Services investigations and intimidation tactics being used against parents who help their children seek legal healthcare across state lines. Government agencies should not be weaponized to punish families making deeply personal medical decisions. Healthcare decisions belong between patients, families, and medical professionals — not politicians. I urge you to: • Vote against any legislation restricting access to mifepristone or medication abortion • Protect telehealth and mail access to reproductive healthcare • Oppose policies that criminalize patients, parents, or providers • Defend bodily autonomy and medical privacy for all Americans The people you represent deserve evidence-based healthcare policy rooted in compassion, freedom, and constitutional rights — not fear and political ideology. I will be paying close attention to how elected officials respond during this moment.
