Upwards of 770,000 Ohioans stand to lose their Medicaid coverage under Governor DeWine's proposed budget if certain conditions are met. The budget includes language that would immediately terminate Medicaid expansion benefits for this population if the federal government reduces its funding share below 90%. While aimed at curbing state costs, this provision jeopardizes healthcare access for hundreds of thousands of low-income residents. Healthcare should be a right, not a privilege determined by budgetary decisions that prioritize potential tax cuts over human wellbeing. I urge you to advocate for the removal of this trigger clause and protect the Medicaid expansion that has provided a critical safety net. Stripping coverage en masse from our most vulnerable neighbors is an unacceptable policy that will have devastating consequences.
