I hope this message finds you well. I am writing to urge you to support H.J.Res.16, which proposes an amendment to the Constitution to extend the right to vote to citizens who are sixteen years of age or older.
This resolution represents an important step toward empowering young people and fostering a more engaged and informed electorate. At sixteen, many individuals are already contributing to society in meaningful ways: working, paying taxes, and participating in civic activities. Extending the right to vote acknowledges their stake in the decisions that shape their future.
Research has shown that introducing voting at a younger age can help establish lifelong voting habits, increasing participation in our democracy over the long term. Moreover, today’s youth are more informed and connected than ever before, thanks to advances in education and technology. They are deeply affected by policies on education, climate change, and economic opportunities—issues that will impact their lives for decades to come.
As our representative, you have the opportunity to champion this initiative and demonstrate your commitment to strengthening democratic participation. I respectfully ask that you support H.J.Res.16 and consider co-sponsoring the resolution if you have not already done so.
Thank you for your time and attention to this important matter. I appreciate your service to our community and look forward to seeing how you continue to advocate for a more inclusive and representative democracy.
