An Open Letter

To: Sen. Tillis, Rep. Hudson, Sen. Budd

From: A constituent in Cary, NC

August 1

I write as your constituent to urge you to oppose any effort to create or revive the proposed “anti-weaponization fund.” This nearly $1.8 billion fund, intended to compensate individuals who claim political persecution by the prior administration, raises serious concerns. It has been widely criticized as an unauthorized use of public money, a potential political rewards program, and a measure that lacks proper congressional authorization. Federal courts have already intervened to block aspects of it, and both Democrats and many Republicans have raised legitimate objections about accountability, precedent, and the rule of law. Taxpayer dollars should not be directed toward what amounts to a selective compensation scheme. I ask that you reject any legislative vehicle or settlement-related mechanism that would establish or fund this program, and that you insist on full transparency and congressional oversight of any related expenditures. Thank you for your attention to this matter. I look forward to your response.
