Protecting Voter Intent and Proposition 4

To: Sen. Lee, Rep. Moore, Sen. Curtis

From: A verified voter in Layton, UT

February 10

I am writing to express my strong opposition to the ongoing efforts by the Utah GOP to repeal or undermine Proposition 4, including the current signature-gathering campaign and the federal litigation seeking to block the court-ordered congressional maps. In 2018, Utahns across the political spectrum voted for Proposition 4 to ensure fair, independent redistricting and to end partisan gerrymandering. The recent Utah Supreme Court rulings have affirmed that the people’s right to reform their government is constitutionally protected. The current attempt to repeal these standards through a new ballot initiative—and the legal maneuvers to bypass the state court's authority—undermine the will of Utah voters. I believe that voters should choose their politicians, not the other way around. As my representative, I urge you to respect the judicial process and the original intent of the voters who passed Proposition 4. I ask that you advocate for a redistricting process that prioritizes transparency and fair representation over partisan advantage.
