Urgent Message to Congress: Remove Speaker Mike Johnson

To: Rep. Hurd

From: A constituent in Crestone, CO

June 12

I’m writing to demand that Congress immediately initiate a motion to vacate the chair and remove Speaker Mike Johnson from office. He publicly stated that California Governor Gavin Newsom “ought to be tarred and feathered”—a violent, mob-style punishment historically used to torture or kill people. That’s not rhetoric. That’s a threat. As Speaker of the House, he holds immense power and responsibility. Using violent language against a sitting governor is unacceptable, dangerous, and disqualifying. Under House rules, any member can file a motion to vacate. I call on you to: 1. Support or file a motion to vacate the Speaker. 2. Vote to remove him from office immediately. 3. Publicly reject political violence and extremist rhetoric from any official—regardless of party. This is a defining moment. Do not let violent threats become normalized in our democracy.
