Restore NIH function and funding!

To: Sen. Tillis, Sen. Budd, Rep. Foxx

From: A constituent in Summerfield, NC

February 5

As a Myotonic Dystrophy Foundation (MDF) advocate, I am writing to express my deep concern about the Trump Administration’s decision to pause National Institutes of Health (NIH) scientific meetings, external communications, and funding decisions. This action threatens to stall critical biomedical research and clinical trials, delaying progress toward FDA-approved treatments and cures for devastating diseases like myotonic dystrophy. Myotonic dystrophy is a serious, life-threatening genetic disorder with no FDA-approved treatment options. NIH funding is essential to advancing research that offers hope to patients and families. Any disruption to NIH’s ability to make funding decisions or convene expert panels risks slowing scientific progress and delaying the development of life-saving therapies. I urge you to take immediate action to ensure NIH can continue its vital work. Please support efforts to remove all unnecessary restrictions that could further delay research and medical advancements for your constituents who desperately need them. Thank you for your leadership and commitment to biomedical research. I appreciate your attention to this urgent issue that affects the quality of life for my family and so many others, and I look forward to your response.
