Protect the Separation of Powers in Learning Resources v. Trump
To: Justices Court
From: A constituent in Woodstock, GA
November 6
I am writing as a concerned citizen regarding Learning Resources v. Trump (No. 24-1287) and its implications for the separation of powers.
The Constitution vests the power of the purse solely in Congress. This foundational principle ensures that no single branch of government can act unilaterally to impose or redirect national spending. Expanding executive authority to levy tariffs or take similar fiscal actions without congressional approval undermines this core safeguard.
The Court has previously reaffirmed this balance in decisions limiting executive overreach, including the cases on student loan forgiveness and the Environmental Protection Agency’s rule-making authority. Those rulings recognized that major policy changes with significant economic impact must come from Congress, not the Executive Branch.
I respectfully urge the Court to uphold that same standard here. Maintaining the constitutional separation of powers is essential to preserving democratic accountability and preventing concentration of power within any one branch. The nation relies on the Court to ensure that the legislative and executive branches operate within their proper boundaries.
Thank you for your attention to this critical matter and for your continued commitment to upholding the Constitution.
