Iowa farmers don’t get advance warning before a tariff announcement crashes commodity prices. Iowa families don’t get a tip before a policy shift wipes out their retirement savings. Iowa small business owners don’t know when to move their money before the next market freefall. But somebody does. And that somebody keeps making suspiciously well-timed trades. This is a documented pattern. Senators Warner and Schiff sent a formal letter to the SEC just last week citing suspicious trades placed minutes before major policy announcements. Attorney General Pam Bondi reportedly sold Trump Media stock just before the April 2025 tariff crash. The STOCK Act’s $200 fine hasn’t stopped any of it. Senator Ernst, you have announced you are not seeking reelection. That is a rare and powerful position to be in. You have nothing left to lose politically — which means you have everything to gain in terms of legacy. This is your opportunity to do something that will matter long after you leave office. Here is what I am specifically requesting — and I am asking for a written response by April 25, 2026: 1. CO-SPONSOR S. 1498, the bipartisan Senate bill that would ban members of Congress, their spouses, and dependents from trading individual stocks. It has cleared committee. It needs a floor vote. Your support — and your willingness to say so publicly — could move this forward. Have you co-sponsored it? If not, I would like to know why. 2. REJECT the weaker Stop Insider Trading Act (H.R. 7008) as sufficient. Critics call it a quarter-measure full of loopholes. Iowa deserves better. 3. CALL PUBLICLY for an independent investigation into suspicious trades surrounding major policy announcements since January 2025. You have a platform. Please use it. 4. CLOSE THE PREDICTION MARKET LOOPHOLE before you leave office. Traders are profiting from policy decisions in real time with no oversight. Legislation to fix this already exists in both chambers. This issue has support from Chip Roy and AOC, from Josh Hawley and Chris Murphy. It crosses every partisan line. Iowans across the political spectrum are disgusted — and they are watching. Your last act in the Senate could be one of your most important. I hope you will rise to this moment. I will be sharing your response — or your non-response — publicly.
