Immediate Action Required-Urgent Constitutional Crisis and Risk to Civilian Life

To: Sen. Hassan, Rep. Pappas, Sen. Shaheen

From: A constituent in South Hampton, NH

April 7

Subject: Immediate Action Required: Escalating Constitutional Crisis and Risk to Civilian Life I am writing you an urgent message regarding War Powers and the President’s actions involving Iran. Since my last communication, the President has further intensified both his rhetoric and military actions, including threats suggesting the destruction of Iranian civilian infrastructure and statements indicating catastrophic consequences for an entire population. This escalation heightens serious concerns regarding both the legality of ongoing military operations and the President’s capacity to exercise judgment consistent with constitutional and legal constraints. Congress cannot remain absent or passive in the face of this moment. This is no longer a matter for future hearings or delayed oversight. Immediate action is required to prevent further escalation and potential unlawful harm to civilians. I ask that you act without delay to: (1) Return to Washington and convene emergency congressional proceedings; (2) Take immediate legislative action to halt any unauthorized or unlawful military escalation, including the introduction or support of a War Powers resolution; (3) Initiate a formal review of the President’s fitness to discharge the duties of the office; (4) Publicly affirm Congress’s constitutional authority over war powers and demand compliance from the Executive Branch; (5) Begin consideration of all constitutional remedies available to Congress, including the initiation of impeachment proceedings, if the President’s conduct is found to have violated the law, exceeded constitutional limits, or placed the nation and civilian populations at grave risk. Every hour of inaction increases the risk of irreversible consequences, including loss of civilian life and further destabilization. I will be calling your office today to ask specifically what actions the [Senator/Representative] is taking in response, including with respect to War Powers enforcement and the consideration of impeachment. I would appreciate a clear response outlining the steps being taken. I ask you to treat this moment with the urgency it demands and to act accordingly.
