Protect LGBTQ+ rights, oppose discriminatory gender definition bill

To: Rep. Ciscomani

From: A verified voter in Tucson, AZ

July 20

This proposed House Resolution 115 seeks to codify narrow and biologically essentialist definitions of "woman," "girl," "mother," "man," "boy," and "father" based solely on sex assigned at birth and traditional gender norms around pregnancy and physical characteristics. Such rigid definitions fail to account for the diversity of gender identities and expressions, and would enshrine discrimination against transgender, non-binary, and gender non-conforming individuals into law. Moreover, the bill aims to restrict access to sex-segregated facilities like bathrooms, prisons and shelters based on these reductive definitions, curtailing rights and putting vulnerable populations at risk. This regressive proposal promotes an exclusionary agenda rooted in outdated stereotypes rather than modern understandings of gender. I urge reconsideration of this harmful House Resolution 115 which undermines civil liberties and human rights protections for all.
