Protect NC Attorney General's independence to safeguard state interests
To: Rep. Strickland, Sen. Sawrey
From: A constituent in Benson, NC
February 27, 2025
North Carolina's Attorney General Jeff Jackson has taken legal action to protect the interests of our state and its residents against harmful executive orders from the Trump administration. His lawsuits have successfully safeguarded billions in federal funding for critical areas like medical research, public universities, and rural economic development. Attempting to strip the Attorney General's ability to challenge federal overreach that negatively impacts North Carolinians is an unconstitutional overreach itself. The Attorney General must retain independence to fulfill the role as the people's lawyer and non-partisan legal advocate for our state. I urge you to reject any legislation that undermines this important check on executive power and instead allow Attorney General Jackson to continue standing up for the well-being of all North Carolinians.
