House Bill 328 is Authoritarian Overreach

To: Sen. Measmer, Rep. Almond, Gov. Stein

From: A constituent in Concord, NC

July 4

House Bill 328 is yet another authoritarian overreach from Big-Government Republicans in this state attacking the rights of the average person and small businesses. This is not a bill written based on knowledge - this is based on some kind of weird personal prejudice. You can see it from the text of the bill. The bill bans "intoxicating hemp products" outright. This is an assault on small businesses and the rights of the average consumer - they cite emergency room visits, but have lawmakers compared that to the number of emergency room visits created by Alcohol and Cigarettes, through the form of drunk driving accidents, cancer diagnoses, bronchitis, strokes, and heart disease? Banning these products for those under 21 - something that should have been done 8 years ago, but lawmakers have apparently not cared for the last 8 years but think it's suddenly an issue - basically resolves this problem from the cited cases. Banning ALL hemp products for anyone under 21 is just stupid ignorance. You can't buy a basket because it's made out of non-intoxicating hemp? What a joke. Reject this garbage bill and try writing sensible legislation instead of trying to crush more small businesses and restrain the rights of your own citizens in this state.
