Hakeem Jeffries says the American people don't want Congress to "get even." Is that what he thinks justice is? Some petty impulse that we should rise above? Should we just let vicious criminals off the hook with no consequences? We need a new House Speaker, one who can meet this moment. Not a coward. Think of Nurul Amin Shah Alam, the blind refugee from Myanmar who fled genocide only to be killed by ICE, whose last hours must have been hell on earth as he wandered the streets of Buffalo, freezing to death, unable to ask for help in English. He and so many others deserve justice. Yes, we need to lower costs. And we need justice. This idea that we have to choose one or the other is nonsense. We need both. And we need a new Speaker with moral backbone. Please make it so!
