This bill would mandate that documentation and identification only recognize the sex assigned at birth, effectively erasing transgender and non-binary identities. It would bar the issuance of IDs with an "X" gender marker and require gender transition surgery as the sole criteria for updating documentation. Such legislation perpetuates discrimination and strips away the dignity of transgender Arizonans by denying their fundamental right to self-identify.
