We are struggling with student loans. Many people in my generation were strongly encouraged to get a college degree and higher. We were told we would be able to pay our bills, but a house, and save money. None of those things are happening. On top of low wages, exorbitant prices for everyday items, and being shut out of the housing market, we can’t afford the rates we’re being asked to pay on student loans. The SAVE program gave just a bit of relief. That program must continue. We need more attainable options for loan forgiveness. It is not fair that we didn’t have the privilege of higher socioeconomic status to pay for college. There was no other way to get an education than financial aid. And without a realistic loan forgiveness route and the SAVE program we continue to be punished for lacking economic privilege.
