I am writing to urge you to take immediate action to protect the Head Start program from the proposed $750 million cut in the FY25 federal budget. This critical program provides early childhood education, health services, and family support to low-income children and families across Virginia. Without it, many children would lose their only access to early education and the support they need to succeed in life.
Early childhood education is a crucial factor in a child's future success, and for many families, Head Start is the only way to ensure their children get the best start possible. The services Head Start provides, from education to health screenings, make a significant difference in helping children thrive, especially those from low-income and underserved communities.
The proposed cuts would disproportionately impact children who are already facing challenges due to poverty, disability, or other circumstances. These cuts would limit access to essential programs that help children develop the skills and resources they need to succeed academically and emotionally.
I urge you to oppose the proposed cuts to Head Start funding. Instead, please advocate for the continued support and expansion of this vital program. We must ensure that all children, no matter their background, have the opportunity to succeed and reach their full potential.
Thank you for your time and for your commitment to the children and families of Virginia. I hope I can count on your leadership to protect Head Start and secure a brighter future for the next generation.
