I am writing to express serious concern regarding the potential harm to U.S.–Denmark relations resulting from recent rhetoric and actions by President Donald Trump. As the parent of a son with Type 1 diabetes, I am acutely aware that Denmark plays a critical role in global insulin production. Disruptions in diplomatic or trade relations with Denmark could threaten the reliable access Americans currently have to this essential medication.
Denmark is home to Novo Nordisk, one of the world’s leading insulin manufacturers. Millions of Americans depend on its products daily, and any instability in our relationship with the Danish government or its pharmaceutical sector would have direct public health implications and put millions of lives at risk. Given the vulnerability of patients who rely on imported insulin and continuous glucose monitors, I urge Congress to reaffirm the importance of stable, cooperative engagement with Denmark.
I request that you advocate for policies that safeguard pharmaceutical trade partnerships and prioritize bipartisan support for critical drug supply chains. Further politicization of international relationships that affect medicine access poses unnecessary risks to American families and to the integrity of our healthcare system.
I believe you know the ethical and rational course of action. Please protect your constituents access to life saving medication. Surely this is one of government’s most critical responsibilities.
