An Open Letter

To: Sen. Tillis, Rep. Adams, Sen. Budd

From: A constituent in Charlotte, NC

June 8

The deployment of National Guard troops against civilian protesters exercising their constitutional rights to assemble and express dissent is a concerning escalation that threatens to inflame tensions rather than defuse them. History has shown that a militarized response often provokes further unrest instead of restoring order. We should pursue de-escalation strategies that address root issues through dialogue and policy reforms, not forceful suppression of dissent. Prioritizing open communication and finding common ground is crucial to prevent this situation from spiraling into broader civil conflict that could jeopardize public safety and erode democratic norms. A measured, lawful approach respecting civil liberties is the wiser path forward to resolving grievances constructively without undermining fundamental freedoms.
