As a constituent living in Oklahoma who plans to raise children here, I am gravely concerned about the threat of school shootings that has plagued our nation. In 2021 alone, there were at least 149 incidents of gunfire on school grounds across the U.S., resulting in 32 deaths and 94 injuries. No student or educator should have to fear for their life while pursuing education. Common sense gun regulations like secure firearm storage laws, extreme risk laws, and universal background checks have proven effective in reducing gun violence. These measures enjoy broad bipartisan public support as well. I urge you to prioritize enacting such preventative policies to make Oklahoma's schools safer environments conducive to learning without the threat of deadly violence. The lives of our children are at stake - we must act decisively to stop these preventable tragedies before more innocent lives are lost.
