Oppose HCR 6 (Wildlife Protection Program)
To: Sen. Foil
From: A verified voter in Baton Rouge, LA
April 17
I am writing to express my strong opposition to Louisiana House Concurrent Resolution 6 (HCR 6).
This resolution aims to amend the state's wildlife rehabilitation program regulations.
The current Louisiana Wildlife Rehabilitation Program has very high standards and ethics, and is based on sound scientific principles.
In fact, over the past four decades Louisiana has become one of the strictest states in regards to protecting native wildlife and exotic animals.
HCR 6 threatens to undo this progress and put our precious wildlife at risk.
Unfortunately, this resolution was proposed without consultation from wildlife rehabilitators, who are the current permitted local experts in this field.
HCR 6 attempts to chip away at essential wildlife protections by deregulating important aspects of the program.
As your constituent, I am concerned that this could lead to issues with zoonotic diseases (spread between animals and people), wildlife trafficking and exploitation, and threats to public safety.
I strongly believe that our state's wildlife deserves the highest level of care and protection.
HCR 6 puts this at risk by undermining the well-established and scientifically-sound wildlife rehabilitation program in Louisiana.
I urge you to oppose HCR 6 and stand up for the continued responsible stewardship of our state's natural resources and wildlife.
