This legislation poses a serious threat to voting rights and would create insurmountable barriers for millions of eligible American voters. THE SAVE ACT IS AN ILLEGAL POLL TAX: Americans already pay taxes on their income and goods we purchase. The SAVE Act would require us to pay an additional $130-$165 for passports or birth certificates just to vote. It's not a right if you must pay to use it - this legislation turns voting into a commodity. If this passes, these costs will only become more expensive with each election. THE SAVE ACT DISPROPORTIONATELY HARMS WORKING AMERICANS: Over 21 million Americans lack easy access to the required documents. This bill would create impossible burdens for working families who cannot afford passport fees or time off work, rural Americans without transportation to government offices 50 miles away, low-income Americans struggling with cost of living, small business owners who cannot close their shops, seniors on fixed Social Security incomes, and veterans who fought for our freedoms only to be charged to exercise them. THE SAVE ACT ELIMINATES CONVENIENT VOTER REGISTRATION: This bill would eliminate online and mail voter registration methods that 37 million Americans have used. This makes it harder for citizens to participate in our democracy. THE SAVE ACT CREATES IMPOSSIBLE SITUATIONS: 84% of married women have changed their names, meaning their birth certificates won't match their current IDs with no solution provided. Election workers could face up to 5 years in prison for honest mistakes while helping eligible citizens register. WE ALREADY HAVE VOTER ID REQUIREMENTS: Americans already show identification to register and vote. The SAVE Act piles expensive additional documents on top of existing safeguards. THIS IS TRANSPARENT VOTER SUPPRESSION: Instead of developing better policies, this bill attempts to silence marginalized and working-class Americans. Politicians should win with ideas, not by blocking eligible voters. Americans have sacrificed their lives to protect our right to vote. The SAVE Act dishonors their service by making it harder for the very people they fought to protect. I strongly urge you to vote NO on the SAVE Act in any form. Protect the voting rights of all eligible Americans.
