This resolution directs the President, under the terms of the War Powers Act, to end hostilities with Iran. I urge you to support this resolution. I understand your deep commitment to protecting our service members from Iranian proxy threats and countering Iran's nuclear and missile ambitions. This resolution strengthens rather than weakens that commitment by ensuring our military spending serves genuine strategic interests. There is real danger posed by Iranian proxies to American personnel. That urgency is exactly why we need congressional definition of military objectives, as there is as also a real danger in open-ended operations against Iranian proxies become fiscal black holes that consume resources meant for strategic defense priorities. We can see this happening in real time with the current war. When military action continues indefinitely without explicit congressional authorization, budget discipline collapses and weapon stockpiles are depleted. Money flows to operational costs rather than modernization, readiness improvements, and the long-term capabilities we need to deter China and Russia. Our nation's military bases and defense sector depend on stable, predictable defense budgets. Uncontrolled military spending crowds out investments in advanced systems, training, and infrastructure that protect our troops and maintain American military superiority. We cannot afford to sacrifice long-term readiness for indefinite crisis management. Congressional authorization creates fiscal accountability. When Congress explicitly authorizes military action, it establishes defined objectives and forces evaluation of whether costs serve our actual strategic interests. This ensures that resources addressing Iranian threats do not crowd out resources needed for the broader defense challenges we face. It is how we ensure every dollar spent produces strategic value rather than becoming institutional inertia.
