Deeply disappointed in your leadership failure
To: Sen. Berthel
From: A verified voter in Oxford, CT
February 15
I am writing as a frustrated and deeply disappointed resident of Oxford regarding your complete failure to advocate for our town in the wake of last summer’s devastating floods. Our community suffered historic destruction, homes were damaged beyond repair, businesses were disrupted, and, most tragically, lives were lost. Yet, your response—or lack thereof—has been inexcusable.
Instead of fighting for the residents who elected you to represent them, you have been absent from the critical discussions about flood recovery. Reports indicate that you failed to request flood assistance for Oxford when other leaders across the state were stepping up to secure aid for their communities. Your silence has left residents struggling, businesses unable to rebuild, and families feeling abandoned by the very officials who should be working for them.
This is not leadership. Your constituents deserved immediate action, not apathy and excuses. I urge you to correct this failure now. Advocate for the funding and resources Oxford desperately needs. Show up for the people who put their trust in you. Because right now, that trust is deeply shaken.
Oxford has not forgotten what happened last summer—and we will not forget who stood up for us and who turned their back when we needed help the most.
