Reject the $1.5 Trillion Defense Budget and Fund Domestic Needs

To: Sen. Lee, Rep. Maloy, Sen. Curtis

From: A constituent in Salt Lake City, UT

April 3

I'm demanding you reject President Trump's $1.5 trillion defense spending request for fiscal year 2027 and redirect those funds to programs that help Americans. This is the largest defense request in decades, proposed while our nation runs nearly $2 trillion in annual deficits and debt exceeds $39 trillion. Trump wants to cut nondefense spending by 10% and eliminate federal support for childcare, claiming "we can't take care of day care" because "we're fighting wars." That's a false choice. The Pentagon already received $150 billion in last year's tax bill plus a proposed $200 billion for the war effort. Meanwhile, families who need energy cost assistance and community development programs are fighting for scraps. Congress controls spending, not the president. His budget is just a wish list. You have the power to say no to this bloated military request and yes to investments in childcare, healthcare, and programs that directly improve lives. Americans need you to prioritize us over endless war spending. Vote against this defense budget increase.
