Public education is the definition of democracy

To: Gov. Gordon, Sen. Anderson, Rep. Jarvis

From: A constituent in Casper, WY

February 18

This executive order to end what it calls "radical indoctrination" in K-12 schools is deeply concerning. Banning discussions of racism, LGBTQ+ issues, and other important topics from the classroom does a great disservice to students. Schools should provide a comprehensive, fact-based education that prepares young people to think critically about society. Attempting to rewrite history through a narrow "patriotic" lens and stripping away protections for vulnerable students is unacceptable. I urge you to reconsider this misguided policy that undermines educational freedom and equity. Instead, we should be working to strengthen public education by providing more resources, supporting teachers, and ensuring all students have access to an inclusive, truthful curriculum that allows them to explore different perspectives. Imposing strict ideological restrictions on what can be taught goes against democratic values and harms students' ability to become informed citizens. Please protect the integrity of public education and allow schools to fulfill their vital role in an open society.
