Upload existing ban on asbestos

To: Sen. Budd, Sen. Tillis, Rep. Foushee

The Environmental Protection Agency is reconsidering the ban on the import and use of cancer-causing chrysotile asbestos, a hazardous material linked to over 40,000 deaths in the United States. This regulation, introduced during the Biden administration in 2024, aimed to phase out the use of white asbestos by 2036 due to its clear ties to lung cancer, ovarian cancer, laryngeal cancer, and the deadly mesothelioma. While over 50 countries have already banned asbestos outright, the Trump administration now seeks to lift restrictions on its use in chlorine production and as a component in sheet gaskets for chemical manufacturing facilities. This alarming reversal prioritizes industry profits over public health and safety. I urge you to uphold the initial asbestos ban and protect Americans from exposure to this proven carcinogen.
