I am upset by reports that NC is preparing to pay $10,000,000 annually to Khan Academy on a no-bid contract for an AI tool it's founder says isn't ready.
This is corrupt and wildly unacceptable.
As an educator, I know we need to do better for our students. While AI is all anyone will talk about, we know it's not as good as a teacher or human tutor.
Maybe use that 10 million to pay teachers and tutors rather than a magic box that doesn't work.
Source: "A North Carolina Senate education bill would direct more than $10 million in recurring state funding to Khan Academy for a statewide AI tutoring program, making the nonprofit the sole provider for participating school districts without a competitive bidding process.
That’s despite the fact that Khan Academy’s own founder says the AI tutoring program has not made the impact he had hoped for.
