I am so unhappy that my Republican Majority Congressmen have allowed Trump to flout our laws and start a war with Iran without congressional approval. Trump's own intelligence agency told him Iran was not able to produce a nuclear weapon for at least 10 years, so he had no excuse to start a war without Congressional approval. Even when he did so, the Republican majority representatives for my state refused to stop Trump, even after the 60 day deadline passed. Now Trump's military actions in Iran have cost taxpayers over 1 billion dollars a day, without calculating in the damage from Iranina strikes on US military bases. In addition, gas prices have jumped $1.54 per gallon since this war started on February 28, and we haven't even hit a gas shortage in this country yet. Trump is out of his depth. Since he started this war, Iran has effectively blocked the Strait of Hormuz. The retaliatory blockade Trump ordered on Iranian ports is choking off oil supplies through the Strait of Hormuz and driving prices higher every day. Even if we managed to get ourselves out of this war with the Strait opened, it will take months for the oil production and shipping to catch up from the delays caused by this war. All realistic predictions point to gas prices making a continual climb as long as the Strait is closed and there is instability in the shipping lanes. This is even more precarious with the U.S. gasoline inventories already sitting at multi-year lows. Americans are paying the price for a war we didn't vote for and can't afford. We are paying the price at the pump and we are paying as our taxes fund this war and pay interest on our ballooning national debt. Work toward a resolution that reopens the Strait of Hormuz and brings gas prices back down. Trump's reckless approach to this war is hurting working families while solving nothing. So far, the Republican Majority in Congress is enabling him, and therefore you are also hurting American workers and families.
